HYDERABAD: The government of Telangana is in discussion to establish an aerospace university in Hyderabad in partnership with the industry. The government is also taking steps to set up more aerospace and defence parks to further strengthen its presence in the sector.

This information was made public by the state's minister of industry, K.T. Rama Rao, at the opening of two new Safran facilities in Hyderabad. He applauded Safran's statement that it would establish a massive aircraft engine MRO plant in Hyderabad. USD 150 million will be the initial investment made by the MRO and test cell. It will be Safran's largest MRO anywhere when it is finished in 2025.

Rama Rao highlighted that this initiative is significant on a national level because it is the first engine maintenance and repair project by an international original equipment manufacturer in India. He claimed that since 2020, the state government and Safran had been negotiating over the project, and that Hyderabad was in competition with Bengaluru and Chennai.

The minister, asserted that this MRO will serve not only Indian airlines but also a sizable number of Middle Eastern airlines that will send planes here and a sizable number of South East Asian airlines that will use this facility.
