HYDERABAD: Biennial polls to 15 seats of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and Telangana Legislative Council will be held on March 13.

The schedule for the 13 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council seats and the two Telangana Legislative Council seats was released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday, February 9.

In Andhra Pradesh, elections will be held for three graduates', two teachers', and eight local government constituencies. Additionally, Telangana will hold elections for one local government and one teachers' seat.
Notifications for these elections will be released on February 16, according to the ECI's announcement. The deadline for submitting nominations is February 23. The nominations will be reviewed the following day. February 27 will be the final day for withdrawal of nominations.

The voting day is March 13. Voter tally will be discussed on March 16. The model code of conduct for these elections will take effect right now in the affected constituencies, according to an announcement from the ECI.

On March 29, the seats of the Anantapur and Kadapa Local Authorities in Andhra Pradesh are expected to become vacant due to the retirement of the current members. In a same vein, sitting representatives from the Kurnool Local Authorities, West Godavari, Nellore, East Godavari, Srikakulam, and Chittoorr constituencies will leave office on May 1.

On March 29, seats for graduates from Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor, Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool, Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam, and teachers from Prakasam-Nellore-Chittoor and Kadapa-Anantapur-Kurnool would become vacant.

The terms of the MLCs representing the Hyderabad Local Authorities and Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad Teachers seats in Telangana are set to expire on March 29 and May 1, respectively.

The chief secretaries of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been instructed by the Election Commission to make sure that any current directives regarding Covid-19 containment measures be followed when making preparations for the elections.
