Niger: A sad incident has come to light from the African country of Nigeria. Where, on Sunday (5 June 2022), attackers opened fire on a Catholic church located in the city of Owo in south-western Nigeria during the prayer, killing at least 50 people. The attackers also exploded inside the church. MLA Ogunmolasuyi Oluwole has told that some children are also among those killed in this attack.

According to Oluvole, such an incident has never happened before in Ovo's history. Adelegbe Timilene, who represents the Owo region in Nigeria's lower legislative house, said the attackers had also kidnapped the church's head priest. It is being told that the attack took place at around 11:30 pm local time. However, the attackers have not been found. In the pictures that have come out from the scene of the incident, there are blood-soaked people lying on the ground.

Strongly condemning this dastardly attack, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has said that no matter what happens, this country will never bow down to the bad guys. Darkness can never conquer light. He said that in the end only Nigeria will win. Officials say that on Sunday Pentecost, Christians gathered in the church. During that time it attacked him. Doctors, local officials and volunteers who treated the injured said the death toll was at least 50. While dozens of people have also been injured in this attack.

Regarding this horrific attack on the Catholic Church, MP Ademi Olemi says that this attack was carried out by Muslim Fulani terrorists. These terrorists are also called dacoits. These terrorists have continuously carried out attacks in many parts of the country including northern Nigeria. The rise of this terrorist organization is due to the historical conflict between pastoralists and local communities over access to land and encroachment on farms.
