26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind and banned terrorist outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed has been arrested from Lahore. He along with three of his associates were arrested on his way to Gujranwala from Lahore and sent to judicial remand. The Anti-Terrorism Department (CTD) had registered 23 cases against 13 Jamaat-ud-Dawa leaders, including Hafiz Saeed.

Not long ago, Saeed and three of his associates were granted anticipatory bail by an anti-terror court in Pakistan till August 3 in connection with the illegal use of land for their madrasa. The US Department of Finance has put Saeed on the terrorist list and the US has announced a $1 million reward for information to punish Saeed since 2012.

Under pressure from the international community, Pakistani authorities have launched an investigation into the use of trusts to fund THE UD and Lashkar-e-Taiba bases and financing terrorism. Foreign affairs experts believe that Pakistan's move is being taken in view of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's three-day visit to the US beginning July 21.

The Saeed-led JUD is a Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks. 166 people were killed in the attack.
