Srinagar: Security forces dismantled a terrorist hideout during a joint operation in Surankote town, Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday. According to a statement from J-K Police, the operation was launched early on September 12, 2024, based on specific intelligence.
The operation involved the Police, Army, and CRPF. As forces cordoned off the area and conducted a search, militants fired upon them. Security forces retaliated, but the militants managed to escape into the dense forest cover. Additional forces have been deployed, and the area remains cordoned off. During the search, security forces uncovered a hideout and recovered arms, ammunition, and food supplies. A case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, on Thursday evening, a man linked to a suspected terror group was apprehended in Poonch district while carrying explosives and grenades. A joint checkpoint by Jammu-Kashmir Police, 16 RR of the Indian Army, and 38 battalions of the Central Reserve Police Forces at Potha bypass led to the arrest of Mohd Shabir, a resident of Daryala, Nowshera. Shabir was carrying a blue bag with three HE-36 hand grenades, explosive substances, and other incriminating materials.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Shabir was in contact with a handler named Azim Khan, alias Mudeer, from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK). Mudeer had directed Shabir to collect the consignment from Surankote. The police are continuing their investigation and expect further arrests in connection with this case.
