Srinagar: t one of the soldiers of the Territorial Army, who came home to celebrate Eid holiday, was shot dead by militants on Thursday in Terror-hit South Kashmir's Anantnag distric. Police said, the unidentified gunman came to the House of Ahmad Baig and shot him.

The critically wounded Baig was immediately rushed to the district hospital, where doctor pronounced him dead on arrival. Baig was stationed in Shopian district and he was in the 34 battalion of Rashtriya Rifles. Manzoor's family also has three children besides her wife. There is a panic in the entire terrain after the incident.  Police said that soon after the incident, a joint team of the Army and SOG launched a search operation to nab the attackers, but the militants managed to flee, the incident has been registered by the police and the investigation has begun.

The army and all other security agencies paid homage to the martyred soldier and the army assured his family that they would be given all possible help in this hour of grief. The army has issued a statement saying that the Army is proud of the sacrifices of the brave soldier and we stand with you in this moment of distress and assure the family that all care will be taken.
