Jammu: The 74th Republic Day is being celebrated across the country today. In Delhi, India's pride is seen on the Kartavya Path. Celebrations are being held across the country. The glory of the country is being upheaved. The whole country is filled with celebrations on this holy festival of the Republic. A piece of good news has also come out from Jammu and Kashmir. Here a former terrorist hoisted the tricolor at his house. He said he was misled and made a terrorist. Now he is very happy to be in the mainstream.

On the eve of Republic Day on Wednesday, a former militant hoisted the national flag on the outer wall of his house in Segdi Bhata village of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Imbued with love for the nation, former terrorist Sher Khan hoisted the tricolor. Sher Khan was formerly a Harkat-ul-Jihad-e-Islami (HuJI) terrorist. He was known as a dreaded terrorist in the district between 1998 and 2006. He surrendered in 2006. He spent 13 years in prison before being released in 2019.

Sher Khan said, ''When I was 20 years old, I was abducted by Pakistani terrorists and then they included me in their ranks.'' Sher Khan said that soon he became disillusioned with terrorism and at the first opportunity, he surrendered to the security forces in 2006 along with 6 other persons in Awantipora. Sher Khan lives in the house with his second wife Shahina and two daughters Sumaiya (19) and Khalifa Bano (17). He has hoisted the tricolor for the first time at his house. Sher Khan said that after being released from jail three years ago, I used to go to Mughal Maidan to participate in the Republic Day program. His first wife Parveena, 42, lives separately with their 20-year-old son Musafir.
