Bhopal: On December 2-3, 1984, 38 years ago, a very terrible accident took place in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. In history, which is known as Bhopal Gas Tragedy. Exactly 36 years ago, a poisonous gas leaked from the factory of a company called Union Carbide in Bhopal, due to which more than 15,000 people died. At the same time, thousands of people became victims of physical disability to blindness, who are still suffering from tragedy, but do you know who was the main accused in this incident, who could never be brought to India?

The remembrances of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy have once again brought back memories in the minds of the countrymen. There was also a case in the court demanding that Anderson be brought to India from America. However, no government succeeded in bringing Anderson to India. Warren Anderson, the owner of the Union Carbide factory, was the main accused in the cases of deaths due to poisonous gas and negligence took place. Warren Anderson was arrested under such serious sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), on which bail could not be conveyed without the permission of the court, but Anderson got bail within just four-five hours.

Anderson fled the country after being granted bail. After this, the case against Anderson continued in court, and alleged attempts were also made to extradite him from America, but this could not happen. After investigating the case for three years, the CBI filed a charge sheet in the court against 11 Union Carbide officials, including Warren Anderson. Anderson retired from the highest office of Union Carbide in 1986  and died on September 29, 2014, in Florida, USA, at the age of 92.

Moti Singh, who was the city collector during the Bhopal gas tragedy, has also mentioned the truth in his book 'Truth of Bhopal Gas Tragedy,' the reason why Warren Anderson was released on bail. Referring to the entire sequence of events in his book, Moti Singh wrote that 'Warren Anderson was released on the orders of the then Chief Minister of the state Arjun Singh. The first FIR against Warren Anderson was filed under non-bailable sections. Even after this, he was released by giving bail. There were allegations and discussions that the main accused in the gas tragedy was driven out of the country by the then Chief Minister Arjun Singh at the behest of the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. There was no case of conspiracy to drive away the accused in the court, but the sections under which the charge sheet was filed are enough to show that the government's approach was not sensitive after thousands of deaths.
