In the compound of Jagdalpur District Court in Chhattisgarh, a 25-year-old boy will often find you swirling, who in the court recognizes everyone from lawyer to babu and from peon to guard. This young man who lives in Queen Ward is neither a criminal nor a witness in more than 250 cases. However, the police say that he has only been made a witness in 66 cases. The youth who lives in Jagdalpur, 285 kilometres from the capital Raipur, claim that the police has made him witness in more than 250 cases, from the arrest of the Maoists to the case of murder and looting. He says that in 2013 when I used to work in a channel, one day I went to the police station, where Inspector in a matter of the case told me to testify. I got ready but after that the series started. I am unemployed, coming out for testimony every day, my entire family is in trouble. The youth also claims that he has received threats to be executed on the phone, even outside the court premises. He has also threatened the court for continuous testimony.

common parlance, such witnesses are also called Pocket witnesses. Even in law, there is no restriction for a witness to become a witness in more than one case. But the experts believe that at times police make such sense from such witnesses. Sankalp Dubey, who advocates in Jagdalpur court, says, 'Pocket witness is not part of the law vocabulary. Such witnesses are not aware of facts. The police makes them witnesses so that their work becomes easier. '
