Potassium

Potassium keeps our hearts beating. Potassium helps in lowering blood pressure and reduces the risk of diabetes and heart diseases.  We need potassium to keep the nervous system and muscles functioning properly. Lack of potassium can lead to fatigue, constipation and muscle cramps.

Fiber

Fiber helps in digestion, prevents constipation, reduces cholesterol levels and reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes and stroke. There are two types of dietary fiber – Soluble fiber and Insoluble fiber.  Soluble fiber can be found in oats, lentils, beans and fruits.  Insoluble fiber is found in whole-wheat, vegetables and brown rice.

Calcium

Calcium is very important for bone, teeth and nerve transmission. Not getting enough calcium can lead to bone fractures and osteoporosis. Our bodies don’t produce calcium naturally and hence we need to include food rich in calcium.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps in regulating cell growth and can reduce the risk of fractures and inflammations, it helps to reduce heart diseases and high blood pressure. Sunlight is a good source of vitamin D

Iron

Iron is necessary for healthy cells, skin, nails and hair.  Not getting enough iron leads to memory loss, fatigue and muscle loss.  Iron is the most common nutritional deficiency and many of us do not think of iron as an important nutrient.
