Raipur: Virbhadra Pratap Singh, a relative of Chhattisgarh minister TS Singhdeo, was found dead near the railway track in Bilaspur district on Friday. Virbhadra Pratap Singh was a Janpad Panchayat representative. Police suspect, he might have accidentally fallen off the Durg-Ambikapur trace from where he was travelling. The body of Virbhadra Pratap Singh (42), vice-president of Lundra Janpad Panchayat in Surguja district, was found near the tracks between Salka and Belgahana railway stations in the Kota police station area in the morning, police said.

Virbhadra Singh alias Sachin Baba, a relative of state Health Minister T S Singhdeo, belonged to the Dholpur unit of the erstwhile Surguja royal family. Bilaspur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Parul Mathur said the body was spotted by railway personnel, who informed the police. After identifying the body, his family members were informed and a forensic team was sent to the spot for investigation, the SSP said.

Mathur said he was travelling from Raipur to Ambikapur by Thursday night-Durg Ambikapur Express and prima facie it appears that he accidentally fell off the moving trace and died. He said "Further investigation is underway. The body has been handed over to his family members after post-mortem. Meanwhile, the opposition BJP claimed that Virbhadra Pratap Singh died under suspicious circumstances. The BJP has conducted a judicial inquiry into the incident.'' Virbhadra Pratap Singh, a close relative of TS Singhdeo, was arrested last year in connection with the alleged attack on Congress MLA Brihaspat Singh's convoy. Senior BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar said it does not appear to be a normal incident in the current situation and could be a political murder. He demanded that CM Bupesh Baghel get the incident investigated by a sitting judge of the High Court.
