New Delhi: The Supreme court has been approached to register an FIR in the violence that erupted in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court directing the Home Ministry and police to file an FIR and punish the "ministers" involved in the case in connection with the incident in Lakhimpur Kheri during farmers' protest in UP on October 3.

The petition, filed by two lawyers, also demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into the case under the supervision of the Supreme court, including CBI. On Sunday, angry farmers protested against the visit of deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya to a function in his (Teni) native village Banbirpur to protest against two-time MP from Lakhimpur Kheri and Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra 'Teni' and eight people, including four farmers, lost their lives in the violence.

Farmers alleged that the SUV car in which Union Minister of State for Home Mishra's son was riding trampled the farmers, killing four farmers. Mishra, however, has rejected the allegation. Four others were later killed in an attack by an enraged mob.
