Eminent Bengali singer Sandhya Mukherjee has passed away at a private hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. She was admitted to the hospital here due to serious health problems. On January 27, Sandhya Mukherjee was taken to the hospital after her condition deteriorated. She complained of breathlessness, following which she has been shifted from his south Kolkata residence to the government-run SSKM Hospital through a green corridor created by the Kolkata Traffic Police.  According to reports, singer Sandhya Mukherjee's health started deteriorating after slipping in the bathroom.

Infections have also been found in both her lungs. After slipping in the bathroom, she also had a fever, after which she has also been admitted to the hospital. Sandhya Mukherjee, who was awarded with the 'Banga Vibhushan' and received the National Movie Award for Best Female Playback Singer, had recently refused to offer the Padma Shri award.  

It is said that when the central government officials contacted her over the telephone for her consent, the singer has even refused to accept the honour. A classical and semi-classical singer, Mukherjee lent her voice to many Bengali movies and many Hindi movies. She had also worked with prominent music directors including SD Burman, Madan Mohan, Naushad, Anil Biswas and Salil Chaudhary.
