The city will soon get a rebuilt Lepakshi handicraft emporium

Vijayawada:The renovated Lepakshi Handicrafts Emporium at Gandhi Nagar in the city will start soon. The rebuilt emporium includes Eticopka, Kondapalli toys, Pedana, Mangalagiri handmade sarees, Kalamkari black prints, wooden dolls from Chittoor, Kalamkari paintings and U sculptures. These films include bronze objects from Seethamapeta, wooden knives from Udayagiri, Bobbili veena and other handicrafts.

He said the government had set up the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation (APHDC) to protect the interests and livelihood of nearly two lakh artisans. In all, there are 17 Lepakshi Emporiums in the state, three more in Kolkata, New Delhi and Hyderabad. "We are focusing on handicraft promotion and marketing through Lepaxi Emporium and have set a turnover target of 50 crore for the current financial year."

Recently Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed APHDC to conduct design workshops based on market demand and promote ap handicrafts brand image by identifying export markets.
