USA: Metaconnectivity no longer exists. The company has shut down its connectivity division nearly ten years after launching the initiative.

The division will be split between the company's "Infra" and "Central Products" teams as part of a general restructuring, according to Light Reading and Fierce Wireless.

The connectivity department was in charge of increasing online usage so that more people could access Meta's social network.

The year 2022 has not been good for tech firms. Almost every major brand has been affected by Tech Winter, including Meta.

The economic downturn has had a significant impact on the company, and this, combined with declining revenue, has forced the company to reconsider its priorities.

The closure of the connectivity division comes as no surprise given its emphasis on the metaverse.

Last month, Meta Connectivity (formerly Facebook Connectivity) was shut down due to massive layoffs.
In a bid to downsize the company, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced last month that more than 11,000 employees would be let go.

This metric ties the end of the meta connectivity division. When the meta closed is unknown.

When Meta Connectivity was founded in 2013, it aimed to increase online usage.
To do this, the company launched Aquila, an ambitious project to broadcast internet to underdeveloped areas of the world using high-flying drones.

However, after two years, the company abandoned the project in 2018.

After Aquila, Meta Connectivity focused on developing a low-Earth orbit satellite-based Internet system similar to Starlink. But last year Amazon stole the team members working on it.

The Connectivity Division has also developed fiber-laying robots under the code name Bombex. According to estimates, Meta Connectivity helped more than 300 million people access faster internet last year.

According to Light Reading, the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), which Meta Connectivity helped build in 2016, will not be affected by the company's closure.

TIP aims to create a new global telecom infrastructure by bringing together telecom firms, service providers and connectivity stakeholders.
Its objective is to provide access to the Internet to everyone everywhere.
