Khozikode: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, that the Paris Agreement on climate change will be ratified by India on October 2.

The COP21 climate deal made in Paris last year. Modi announced at the BJP conclave in Kerala, "Today, on the birth anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyay, I announce that India will ratify the decisions (formally join the Paris Agreement) on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as Gandhiji's life had left the smallest carbon footprint".

According to Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, "There are huge issues. It will impact on our electricity regulation, Motor Vehicles Act, power plants and airlines".

An important has played by India in the Paris climate summit, it had seemingly been holding out for better support in nuclear power deals with the US and a greater shove for New Delhi to be allowed to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
