Islamabad: Pakistan-based Lahore High Court on Monday declared the special court as 'unconstitutional', which sentenced former military dictator General of Pakistan (Retd) Pervez Musharraf to death by convicting him of treason. The Lahore High Court gave this decision after hearing the petition filed by Musharraf.
In this, Musharraf questioned the formation of a special court, challenging the death sentence given to him. The court said that the sedition case against former President Musharraf was not conducted as per law. Musharraf was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court on 17 December 2019 in this case. This case was filed in 2013 by the then Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) government.
Musharraf, in his petition, had urged the Lahore High Court to 'repeal the decision of the special court, being illegal and unconstitutional and declare the decision to go out of jurisdiction, being against the provisions of the Constitution'. Justice Syed Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Mohammad Amir Bhatti and Justice Masood Jahangir heard Musharraf's petition.
