Kerala the Indian state first infected with the corona virus has recovered well and the UN has applauded the Health ministry for the continual efforts to tackle the deadly virus. However, the situation has reversed due to various protests and mass-gatherings in the state and people's carelessness towards the protocols. Apart from increase in the number of positive cases, the state is witnessing yet another problem of concomitant rise in the patients requiring critical care with a 25 to 30%  increase in Category C patients most of them admitted to hospitals after reporting severe complications.

As on October 20, 768 admitted in ICU compared to 481 patients admitted on October 1st which is a 37% rise. The patients requiring ventilator support has also increased to 193 in the past 20 days. Public Health Foundation of India and IMA has predicted the Covid cases in Kerala may double by November 15 and the death toll may rise up to 2000. State health minister has earlier warned about the surge in the month of October and November even the state may need to impose second lockdown has reiterated that the key focus as of today is to reduce the mortality rate.

The state government has reduced the rates of Covid-19 tests. Due to the fear of getting infected by Covid, a majority of the people with slight and moderate symptoms are unwilling to check-in to hospitals. Despite having comorbidities, people ignore symptoms and reach hospitals after two to three weeks. This delay can further worsen their health
