At the age of 96, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8. World leaders and celebrities paid their respects to Britain's longest-reigning queen as tributes poured in. A recent poignant homage to the late monarch was also offered by Claire Foy, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth in the first two seasons of Netflix's The Crown.

At the Toronto Film Festival, Foy, who won an Emmy for her work in The Crown, spoke with the BBC and said, "I think that she was an incredible monarch. She united people and she was a massive symbol of continuity and dignity and grace." She further continued, "My main feeling is just thinking about her as a mother and a grandmother and a great-grandmother, really, and I’m very honoured to have been a teeny-tiny, small part of her story."

The Crown is a notoriously detailed account of Queen Elizabeth's life beginning with her accession to the throne. In the first two seasons of the show, Claire played the monarch; in the third and fourth seasons, Olivia Colman played an older version of Her Majesty. Imelda Staunton will play the monarch in the future season of the show.

The Crown creator Peter Morgan issued a brief statement following the Queen's passing in which he claimed that the programme had been a "love letter" to the monarch and hinted that the sixth season's development will be put on hold out of respect for the monarch. In November 2022, the next series is scheduled to debut.
