Called as the festival of colours, Holi is very much unique to the Indian soil. Down the ages, people have been delighted to splash colours on their near and dear ones to celebrate the occasion with gaiety and fun. Use of colours during Holi is not just for fun. In past, the traditional Holi colours were extracted from plants like turmeric, neem and palash  were used and they  had several positive health benefits. But nowadays ulterated synthetic colours is used that are highly harmful to humans. The chemical colours contain solvents like lead, aromatic compounds, tetrathyline and benzene. Red, green and black are some of the dark colors that contain copper sulphate, mercury sulphite and lead oxide in high content. These chemical can lead to various health issues. Few of them are-

1. Causes allergy in eyes which results in blindness, redness of the eyes.

2. Excess intake of black colour containing lead oxide through air directly affects the kidney.

3. Chlorine iodine contains in purple colour causes asthma.

4. Directly attack the nervous system which results in mental retardation.

5. Leads to dermatitis due to rashes and itching.

 6. Directly affects the hair. Once the colour gets dry, it results in dry and brittle hair.

7. Causes skin cancer.
