Chennai: Tamil Nadu's 'Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE)' department has taken control of the 'Ayodhya Mandapam' at Paschim Mambalam in Chennai. The 64-year-old site is also known as 'Ayodhya Ashwamedha Maha Mandapam'. Despite protests and agitations by locals, MK Stalin's government took these actions on Monday (April 11, 2022). Many political parties have extended support to the protest of the local people.

The protests started here on Monday morning itself, which became more violent by noon. The police placed several people in 'containment arrest' to control the situation. Local BJP corporator Uma Anandan was also involved in the protest. She has termed the decision of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu as illegal B. He said that the task of overseeing and maintaining the 'Ayodhya Mandapam' has been the responsibility of the 'Shri Ram Samaj'.

Locals said that the people have got it constructed with their own money. There are religious ceremonies here every day. Along with this, 'Radha Kalyanam' and 'Homham' have also been held regularly here. There is no worship according to 'Agam', that is why people say that it does not fall completely in the category of 'temple'. The temple Pujan committee said that only a practising Hindu can be appointed as its trustee and no government official can take its place.
