Stockholm: At the 2023 Auto Shanghai event, Swedish automaker Volvo displayed its top-of-the-line electric-SUV model, the EX90 Excellence. The most opulent two-row, four-seat EV will initially be offered in the Chinese market.

The automaker anticipates starting to produce its top model by the end of 2023. To set it apart from the standard EX90, it has a two-tone paint job and distinctive 22-inch wheels.

Volvo is regarded as a leader in the field of passenger safety and was a pioneer in the use of radar-based ADAS features.The automaker equipped the EX90 with a LiDAR-based system that can detect pedestrians and other obstacles from up to 250 metres away in order to increase safety.

In order to avoid a collision, the upgraded system also receives real-time ADAS algorithms based on AI.

The Volvo EX90 Excellence has a distinctive two-tone paint job to stand out. Clamshell hood, closed-off grille, "Thor's Hammer" DRLs, roof-mounted LiDAR sensor array, indicator-mounted ORVMs, flush-fitted door handles, flared wheel arches, and designer 22-inch alloy wheels are some of the features of the SUV. At the back, there are shark-fin antennas and vertically stacked LED taillights.

The interior of the Volvo EX90 Excellence ups the level of luxury in the four-seater cabin with natural wood accents on the centre console and dashboard. It comes with a sizable Orrefors crystal knob to control the fragrance dispenser and a choice of either sustainable Nordico upholstery or a tailored wool blend. The EV has a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is oriented vertically and a digital instrument cluster.

To protect the passengers, the Volvo EX90 Excellence has ADAS features based on LiDAR. The EV is essentially a highly advanced computer on wheels thanks to the NVIDIA DRIVE in-car computing platform, Xavier and Orin (SOC) system-on-chip, and Snapdragon Cockpit Platform. The system controls all of the vital operations inside the car, including active safety features and battery management.

A sizable 111kWh battery pack and dual PMS electric motors provide power for the Volvo EX90 Excellence. The system can produce 910Nm of peak torque and 496hp of maximum power. The range of the e-SUV is up to 483 kilometres on a single charge.
