Washington: A US representative for Iran met with Jamshid Sharmahd's family on Friday. Jamshid Sharmahd is an Iranian-German citizen who was found guilty and given the death penalty in Iran in February for leading a pro-monarchist group that was suspected of carrying out a deadly bombing in 2008.

Abram Paley, Deputy Special Envoy, shared a photo of himself with Sharmahd's daughter Gazelle and son Shayan on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

"I appreciated having the chance to speak with Jamshid Sharmahd's family today. We hope to see the day he is reunited with his loved ones because he should never have been imprisoned in Iran, Paley wrote.

In response to the post, Gazelle Sharmahd stated that she had informed Paley that she needed "actions" and that her father had to be involved in any plan that was made to release US citizens.

We will keep pleading with the Biden Administration to #LeaveNoOneBehind or end talks with the kidnappers of my dad, Sharmahd said on X.
