Riyadh: The tourism ministry announced on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia has not officially submitted a bid to host the FIFA World Cup.

As part of promoting sport and tourism in the Kingdom in line with Saudi Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is constantly considering hosting a number of major sporting events, according to a tweet from the ministry.

Major sporting events like Formula 1, football, and heavyweight boxing title fights have all taken place in the Kingdom.

The 2029 Asian Winter Games will be held in Saudi Arabia at Trojena, a year-round winter sports facility being constructed in the northwest of the Kingdom as part of the futuristic NEOM megacity. Saudi Arabia was chosen as the host nation in October.

The construction of Trojena, which is scheduled to be finished in 2026, is located in a part of NEOM where winter lows drop below zero and year-round temperatures are typically 10 degrees lower than those in the surrounding area.

In order to reorient the Kingdom's economy away from its dependence on oil exports, Saudi Vision seeks to reform the country on a number of fronts, including in tourism, culture, and cutting-edge technologies.
