The Central Government has given the green signal to the proposal of movement of international passenger flights from the Ahilyabai Holkar Airport. From the financial capital of Madhya Pradesh, the first international passenger flight can start only in the current calendar year. "We have got the approval of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry for operationalization of international passenger flights," local airport director Aryama Sanyal told reporters today. He said that in view of the plan to start international traffic from the local airport, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has written to the Home Ministry to set up an immigration check post here.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Finance has requested that the necessary formalities should be met to grant the local airport the status of the notified airport of Customs (customs) department. Sanyal said that the first international passenger flight from the local airport is expected to start by December after the necessary government process is completed. He told that Jet Airways has shown interest in starting the international flight from Indore. However, the company's solid offer in this regard is currently awaiting.

Sanyal said that currently 44 domestic flights are coming to the local airport and so are the domestic flights going on. From January 1 to June 30, about 13 lakh passengers have travelled through this airport. He informed that at present, there are 11 parking bays at the local airport. In this complex, work on 15 new parking bays has already begun till 2019.

Sanyal also said that the decision to stop the announcement of the movement of flights to make the local airport a 'quiet airport' like other airports in the country is being considered. After closing the system, the display system providing information about the arrival and departure of flights in the airport premises will be strengthened. Along with this, a help desk will be set up for the passengers.
