CAIRO – Egypt has received the first shipment of the Covid-19 vaccine from US drugmaker Moderna, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Population. "A total of 784,280 doses have been delivered to Cairo International Airport," said Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar.

According to media news, the shipment is part of the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access Facility, which is run in collaboration with the Vaccine Alliance.

Egypt has so far been successful in providing all types of coronavirus vaccines," he said. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Egyptian Drugs Authority have granted an emergency use authorization for the Moderna vaccine, which consists of two doses separated by 21 days. Egypt has so far administered 25,083,832 vaccine doses, according to the WHO.
