Nagaland C M Neiphiu Rio stated on Monday that the State Government's Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was formed to investigate the December killings of 14 persons in Mon district, is awaiting the evidence from the Central Forensics Science Laboratory (CFSL).

He stated that the SIT had concluded the investigation, but that without the CFSL report, the results would be incomplete, since the CFSL report would be good evidence and scientific proof to continue ahead with the December 4 and 5 incidents. "Various groups demand various issues, and in a democracy they have the right to do so," Rio told the reporters, referring to the requests of various Naga organisations.

The 22-member SIT, which conducted the investigation under the overall supervision of Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Sandeep M Tamgadge, has filed its preliminary report and would file its final report after the CFSL has submitted its reports. The SIT's one-month investigating period ended on January 5.

Several Naga organisations, including the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation, the All Naga Students' Association, and the United Naga Council, have called for a Republic Day boycott, claiming that justice for the victims of the Mon district has been delayed.

Almost all political parties and Naga groups in Nagaland have asked that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) be repealed and that the SIT's report be made public by the government.
