World number nine badminton player Lakshya Sen has managed to make it to the quarterfinals by defeating Denmark's Rasmus Gameke in the second round of the ongoing BWF Super 500 Indonesia Open 2022 in Indonesia. Not only that, Lakshya Sen defeated Gameke by straight sets of 21-18, and 21-15 in a match that lasted 54 minutes on Thursday. In the first set, both the players got to see the attacking game, but Sen has exercised restraint and defeated the world number 13 21-18. In the second set, Gameke attempted to make a comeback after taking an 11-10 lead till the first half, but Sen has once again held onto the match. Sen, who made the second half of the set to his name unilaterally, allowed Gameke to score just four points and beat him 21-15.  

Earlier, it was reported that Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai on Monday announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh from the state government to Lakshya Sen, a member of the Thomas Cup-winning Indian Men's Badminton team. According to a release issued here, the Chief Minister has made an announcement after inaugurating the 'Mini-Olympic Sports Meet-2022' organized by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports. He also said that his government is going to promote all sports.

"We have already selected a group of 75 players from different sports for special training as part of the preparation for the Paris Olympics (in 2024). India's men's badminton team has registered its name in the pages of history by winning the Thomas Cup title for the first time by defeating 14-time champions Indonesia 3-0 in a one-sided final in Bangkok on Sunday. Apart from world championship medallists Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth, the world number eight pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have achieved a memorable victory for the team.''
 
Some time ago, there were reports that World Championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen has advanced to the quarterfinals of the men's singles of the All England Badminton Championships by defeating world number three Anders Antonsen in straight games here on Thursday, but with the defeat of PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal in the second round, India's challenge in women's singles has come to an end.
