NEW DELHI: The central government has said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that it is working fast to conserve indigenous species of cows and in the next five years the cows of Indian species will reach higher levels than cows of any other exotic species. Union Animal Husbandry Minister Giriraj Singh said during the Question Hour that the government is working towards the development and conservation of indigenous breeds through the National Gokul Mission.

He has answered Ravi Kishan's supplementary question that animal husbandry is a state subject and states like UP are providing protection to millions of govans by opening shelter homes. Giriraj said, "In the last five years, the Central Government has undertaken the task of conservation of indigenous animals under the Gokul Mission. He has expressed confidence that in the next five years, our indigenous breeds of cows will reach higher levels than cows of any other exotic species in the country.

Giriraj Singh has said that the use of sexed seam is to remove the possibility of birth of male calves and provide facilities for breeding of calves. He said, the work can also be done through embryo transplant and 30 centers are currently being operated.
