The government is going to take big steps to promote electric vehicles. The government will completely ban petrol and CNG-run two-wheelers and three-wheelers in the next six years. The government's think tank Policy Commission has already made it clear that it will start by 2023.

Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the National Mission for Transformative Mobility and Battery Storage Programme, organized by the NITI Aayog on 14th May 2019, will promote electric vehicles under the Action Plan. Two-wheelers and three-wheelers based on the combustan engine will be banned by 2025.



Tell us for your information, after which only electric three-wheelers will be sold from April 2023. Similarly, only electric two-wheelers will be sold from April 1, 2025. According to this, petrol-diesel or CNG-run two-wheelers will be sold only by March 31, 2023. After that all types of three-wheelers will be electric-driven. Similarly, two-wheelers with a capacity of 150cc petrol or any other fossil fuel will be sold by March 31, 2025. Auto companies had also opposed the NITI Aayog meeting on the issue.  Nitin Gadkari said that to boost the sale of electric vehicles, the Heavy Industries Ministry has also released a subsidy of Rs 10,000 crore for phase-II phase of the Fame India Scheme. The scheme has been launched from 1st April, 2019 and will be subsidised for three years under the Fame (Faster Adaptation and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles) scheme.
