NEW DELHI:  India Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Companion of the order of Logohu by Papua New Guinea, the nation's highest civilian award for championing the cause of unity of Pacific Island countries and and leading the cause of the Global South.

The Prime Minister's Office announced in a tweet that PM Narendra Nodi had been awarded the Companion of the Order of Logohu by Papua New Guinea. Governor-General of Papua New Guinea Sir Bob Dadae gave it to him. Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, said: "An accolade reflective of depth of India-Papua New Guinea friendship. PM Modi was given the Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (GCL), the nation's highest civilian honour, by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae of Papua New Guinea. Few non-Papua New Guinean citizens have ever won this honour.

This came soon  after Fiji also conferred their highest award to Narendra Modi.

In an earlier tweet PMO said: "Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi has been conferred the highest honour of Fiji, the Companion of the Order of Fiji.. It was presented to him by PM Sitiveni Rabuka. The PM arrived on the second leg of his visit to Papua New Guinea on May 21 after attending G7 Summit in Japan's Hiroshima.
