Jalandhar: The famous Mukteshwar Shivdham of Pathankot is known as the ancient Pandava cave. In the hills of this Shivalik, it is told about this Dham, more than 5500 years old, that it was developed by the Pandavas. This dham is also called Chota Haridwar. These days, due to the construction work of Shahpur Kandi barrage, the existence of this historical site is in danger, even for years the Temple Save Committee has been fighting a battle against this danger.

Mukteshwar Dham is located 22 km from the district headquarters in Pathankot, 4 km from Meerthal and 7 km from Indora at the meeting point of the Beas and Choch rivers near the Ravi river. This is Shivdham in village Dhang between Ranjit Sagar Dam and the recently under construction Shahpur Kandi Dam. According to Kimvadanti, in the Dwapar era, Yudhishthira had lived here for nearly six months with his four brothers and Draupadi cutting off the unknown. Here he installed Shivling in caves.

According to the committee chairman of Mukteshwar Dham Bachao Samithi Naveen Agarwal, General Secretary Bhim Singh and others, when the place was declared unsafe on February 20, 1995, this decision was made in the meeting of the Land-Acquisition Department on 29 March 1995 with the efforts of the Gram Panchayats. Taken - 22 kanal area of Mukteshwar temple will not be acquired. When its governments or administration is not serious, then it has become a mass movement under the banner of Mukteshwar Dham Bachao Samiti.

Due to the construction of a dam in Shahpur Kandi, there is a danger of this golden history being lost in its lake, due to which, according to the temple save committee, this project has only a few months left to complete, after which the water level fixed here If 405 meters are filled, then one and two number caves will completely fit into the water. According to Bhim Singh, the bottom floor of the door of Cave 1 is at 401 meters. To save from drowning, the committee warns that till the dham is not guaranteed to be saved, water will not be allowed to be filled in the lake. Due to this waterfall, the existence of Dham can be in danger.
