With an answer to a query about the future of her Eternals character, Angelina Jolie demonstrates her command of the world of Marvel secrecy. Jolie plays Thena, an exceptional warrior who can create any weapon out of cosmic energy, in the upcoming installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Oscar winner is joined by Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Lia McHugh, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, Kit Harrington, and Salma Hayek in the ensemble cast for Eternals.

Eternals is set shortly after the events of Avengers: Endgame and follows the titular group of immortals, who have lived on Earth for over 7,000 years and are reunited to safeguard mankind from their evil opposites, the Deviants. The film's development began in early 2018, when Ryan and Kaz Firpo were engaged to create the script, then later that year, Oscar winner Chloé Zhao was hired to direct and rework the screenplay with Patrick Burleigh.

Eternals, which began filming in early 2020 and was delayed many times owing to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, is finally set to premiere exclusively in November, thanks to the box office success of fellow MCU title Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Jolie recently spoke with Total Film on the forthcoming release of Eternals (via ComicBook.com). When asked about her future in the franchise, the Oscar winner kept her mouth shut but gave a witty remark that demonstrated her expertise in keeping Marvel's secrets.

Many actors have signed multi-film contracts and cameos in other franchise editions in the comic book genre during the last decade, however Marvel Studios has indicated in recent years that it is largely moving away from such a financial model. Elizabeth Olsen of WandaVision has revealed how her MCU contracts initially only covered two films, however she would subsequently extend her stint with the studio to four films, starring in the Disney series and returning for next year's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Given these contracts are becoming less of the go-to for Marvel Studios, it would make sense Jolie would keep her franchise future a secret for the time being.

Additionally, with Eternals still over a month away from release, there's always the possibility her character doesn't make it to the end, putting a hitch in her future with the franchise. Although, if to look at Paul Bettany's Vision and Tom Hiddleston's Loki, it's also pretty evident dead doesn't always mean the end for an actor in the MCU. Only time will tell what the future may hold for Jolie in the MCU when Eternals hits theatres on November 5.
