The Inspiring Tale of Paramvir Singh Beniwal, A Travel Vlogger from Hisar

This is a story of a young travel vlogger who decided to try-out his risk-taking potential by travelling to some of the most dangerous places on Earth. While in the process, Paramvir Singh Beniwal, also known as Passenger Paramvir, made it to the news and was featured in several news articles and travel blogs for his unique taste for travel destinations. The 24-year-old YouTuber lately became the topic of discussion among travel enthusiasts for his well-documented travel experiences from around the world. The places that Paramvir plumps for are almost always racked by war, terrorism, and hostility towards tourists. But this globetrotter fears no odds from suchrisky journeys.By now one might think that this venturesome man needs a piece of life-saving counsel. But before we stack up our presumptions, let’s fathom out why he came up with such an unusual bucket list of travel destinations.

Born in a progressive desi Jat family in Hisar in Haryana, Paramvir earned his bachelor of science degree in zoology honours. The thought of becoming atravel vlogger never crossed his mind back in his school days or even during his initial days as a fresher in college. The six-foot-four travel vlogger was an outstanding volleyball player and the only idea of travelling that he nurtured was of going abroad to represent India in the sport.

Paramvir was an active sportsperson from the early days of his childhood and he played every single sport in school that was a part of his curriculum. Inspite of his curricular success not being at par with his success in sports, his parents did notstop him from playingor put on him an undue pressure of being in the merit list. They encouraged him to excelin what he was good at owing to which he bagged a seat in one of the oldest and highly ranked colleges for arts and sciences in India – the Hindu College, a constituent of University of Delhi, through sports quota.

Unfortunately, Paramvir’s luck did not favour him when he was a step close to fulfilling his dream of training at the national camp for volleyball and getting selected in the men’s national team. He suffered a severe knee injury because of which he had to undergo a couple of surgeries in 2014that put a crimp in his plan of professionally playing volleyball and eventually travelling abroad. Becoming a travel vlogger or a YouTuber was still not a feasible option as the only exposure to travelling that he had was from his school trips to Uttarakhand, Nainital and the multiple volleyball tournaments and camps that he had attended in different states of India. Paramvir did not have a solid backup plan for his career till he went on his maiden solo trip to Turkey,in his freshman year at college, where he spent six weeks in a volunteer programme in the coastal town of Antalya. He had a positive shift in his perspective on life, culture and religion when he returned to India, and that’s when his love for solo travel grew stronger. He then decided to explore more of that newfound wanderlust. Since then he has travelled to around twenty countries with more names being added to his wish list.

With a great many of travel destinations to choose from, he goes for the most nonstandard ones. His often-risky adventures see him spending a day with one of the world’s most dangerous tribes in Southern Ethiopia or stuck in the midst of deadly riots in Lebanon. While not all of his travel agendas are all rosy, the past two years that Paramvir has spent documenting his experiences in mostly hostile or war-ridden places have brought him in touch with similar-minded people from around the globe. He loves meeting newpeople and the connections that hemakes with themand the charming memories that he picks along the way become his souvenirs. From celebrating his twenty fourth birthday in the slums of Somaliland with its needy inhabitants to spending days on Russian campsites and going penniless on the streets of Ethiopia, he has seen it all. Not stopping there, this tall, dark and ‘travelsome’ vlogger consumed by passion is also seen creating awareness about marginalized afro-descendent communities in India like the Siddis or keeping his audiences informed with new travel policies, fitness videos, self-funded budget travel vlogs and much more. His gigantic and muscular body is probably another reason whyhis followers enjoy seeing him in thrilling situations and how he handles them.

Another of Paramvir’s reasoning behind travelling to such dangerous places is that some of them come with a huge potential in tourism. Just because of how international media inaccurately portray these countries, they are held back from reaching that potential. He beholds a generous motive of helping these countries enhance their tourismby showing their bright side to the world. His efforts that have already gained popularity make his future plans of visiting Syria, Togo, Afghanistan, Yemen and Iran full of promises and his ‘lockdown’ hobby of learning new languages for his future travel will certainly make his graphs go north.
