At the Innovative International Film Festival, Sagar Puranki's Kannada film Dollu won the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for Best Kannada Film. Karthik Mahesh and Nidhi Hegde played prominent parts in the film, which marked their Sandalwood debut.

Dollu has already been chosen to screen at the Dhaka Film Festival. Pavan Wadeyar and Apeksha Purohit produced the film. It is based on the Dollu Kunitha drum dance, which is prevalent in Karnataka. Director Sagar also stated that his interest in folk dance, art, and culture inspired him to make the film. 

"Over the years, there has been a constant stream of migration from Karnataka's rural districts to large cities like Bengaluru or Mumbai, as people seek greater standards of life," director Sagar said in an interview with Bangalore Times. As a result, we have forgotten our roots, which are found in folk art forms such as Dollu Kunitha. Our folk arts and village culture are fading as a result of increased urbanisation, which is what we've attempted to depict without adding commercial components but with enough entertainment value. We've done a lot of filming at Shivamogga and Chitradurga."

Babu Hirannaiah, Chandra Mayur, and Sharanya Suresh also have significant parts in the film. Dollu's screenplay was written by Shreenidhi DS, while the soundtrack was composed by Ananth Kamath.
