Hyderabad: South Central Railway operated its first Kisan Rail from Nagarsol station on 5th January from Marathwada region. Rail transport is convenient, fast, hassle free and economical, with minimum losses along the way, especially for transport to the farthest places. The loading and transportation of agricultural produce by Kisan Rail crossed over one lakh tonnes from Nagarsol Railway Station alone by operating 337 Kisan Rails to various destinations across the country.

The agricultural products transported from this station mostly included onions, while grapes, tomatoes and watermelons were also carried by these farmers' rails. The products are mainly transported to Eastern and North Eastern states, New Guwahati, Malda Town, New Jalpaiguri Agartala, Baihata, Gaur Malda, Naugachia, Dankuni, Dhukuni, Chitpur, Sankrail Goods Terminal and Fatuha. Kisan Rail helped the agriculture sector including traders, cargo operators to find new avenues for marketing their agricultural products across the country with better price appreciation at affordable transportation cost. This is a win-win situation for both the customers and the Railways.

Railways in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture has increased the tariff concession by 50 percent for the transport of agricultural products in Kisan Rail. SCR General Manager Gajanan Mallya expressed happiness over the transportation of more than one lakh agricultural products from Nagarsol station. He especially appreciated the efforts of the team of Nanded Division for operation of Kisan Rail on uninterrupted basis. He directed the officers to continue the same pace so that farmers and traders do not face inconvenience in transporting their produce through "Kisan Rail".
