The Toronto Blue Jays were defeated by the Seattle Mariners on Saturday in an MLB postseason game that also featured a dramatic collision that resulted in Blue Jays' George Springer being taken off the field after he collided with teammate Bo Bichette. As the two raced to the ball after J. P. Crawford hit a blooper into shallow center field, Bichette's elbow made contact with Springer's neck. Springer left the game in the eighth inning, while Bichette continued to play.

After the game, Blue Jays interim manager John Schneider told reporters the 33-year-old was “doing OK.” “He’s going to be evaluated for a couple of different things, he said some nice things to his teammates just now,” Schneider said in the post-match press conference. “So, we’ll know more in the next couple of days.”

In Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series at Rogers Centre, Springer's injury made an already terrible night for the Toronto club even worse as the Marines overcame a seven-run hole to advance to the next round.

The comeback, which was the largest for a club playing on the road and in a series-clinching game, was the second-largest in playoff history, according to MLB.com.

After five innings, the Blue Jays led 8-1, but the Mariners scored four runs in the sixth and four more in the eighth to tie the game at nine runs each. Cal Raleigh scored the game-winning run in the ninth inning thanks to a double by second baseman Adam Frazier. The Houston Astros will visit the Mariners next in the best-of-five series.
