India’s path to its freedom has not been an easy one. Thousands of people sacrificed their lives for the country. Out of them, some were remembered, while some got burried in the pages of History.

Each Independence day, we remember the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, while the others are forgotten. So this time, we bring to your notice some lives, apart from those you know, that were lost during the freedom struggle.

1. Matangini Hazra:

 This brave heart participated in the Quit India Movement and also the Non-Cooperation Movement.

In one of the movements, when she held the Flag and marched forward, the britishers shot her with their guns, thrice, but she kept raising the slogan, “Vande Mataram”.

 

2. Begum Hazrat Mahal:

The begum had played an important role in the movement of 1857. Her husband was taken away, but she did not surrender. She fought to protect Awadh and also took control of Lucknow. She had to finally move to Nepal, where she took her last breath.

 

3. Aruna Asaf Ali:

Ali never rose to much fame, but her participation in the freedom fight was unforgettable.

She was just 33 when she hoisted the flag of Indian National Congress, in the Quit India Movement , in the year 1942, at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay.
