New Delhi: According to government agencies, Delhi's minimum temperature dropped to 14.6 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the lowest so far this season, and it is expected to drop even lower due to cold north-westerly winds from the Himalayas. On Wednesday, Delhi's air quality fell into the 'poor' category due to a drop in temperature and an increase in stubble burning in Haryana and Punjab. They expect it to fall into the 'very poor' category by Thursday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Safdarjung Observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 28.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal. The minimum temperature is expected to drop to 13 degrees Celsius by November 1, according to an IMD forecast.

On Wednesday, the Central Pollution Control Board reported that Delhi's 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) was 232. It was 139 degrees on Tuesday, 82 degrees on Monday, and 160 degrees on Sunday. An AQI of zero to 50 is considered 'good,' 51 to 100 is considered 'satisfactory,' 101 to 200 is considered 'moderate,' 201 to 300 is considered 'poor,' 301 to 400 is considered 'very poor,' and 401 to 500 is considered 'severe.'

SAFAR said a rise in farm fires over north India in the next 3 days will increase Delhi's PM 2.5 pollution level. The share of smoke from stubble burning in the city's pollution rose to 16 per cent on Wednesday.
