Lucknow: Five persons have been arrested for allegedly firing at a jailor of a sub-jail in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district. Saharanpur SSP Akash Tomar informed that on Thursday night, the jailor of Deoband sub-jail Revan Singh was taking a walk outside his official residence after having food, meanwhile, some masked youths opened fire on him. Singh somehow managed to escape and hide behind the tree and save his life. Tomar said that the youths fled the spot when the sentry and other policemen on duty arrived.

The SSP said that the jailor lodged a case against unidentified miscreants at Police Station Gangoh after which several police teams started searching for the attackers. Tomar said that four people were arrested by conducting a raid in the night itself. They have been identified as Lavish, Sachin, Pankaj, Deepanshu and Vishu. All are residents of the Devambad police station area. He said that after questioning the five attackers, it was found that Lavish had come to the jail to meet his uncle Neetu, who has been in jail since 2019. There were two other young men with him.

The soldier posted in the jail refused to allow them to meet, after which they had an argument with the said soldier and then they went back. According to Tomar, at 8.30 pm, Lavish reached there with his friends and fired two rounds. Police have recovered two bikes and two guns used in the crime from the possession of the accused.
