New Delhi: Apartments are being offered in lotteries to motivate people to vaccinate in Hong Kong. Hong Kong's Corona developer is offering $1.4 million in apartments as a prize to vaccinators, as not many people here are eager for vaccination. Sino Group's NG Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Chinese Estate Holdings Ltd. are offering new apartments in their Grand Central Project in the Quan Tong area. Hong Kong residents who take both doses of the vaccine deserve a draw for 449 square feet (42 square meters) of apartments. Sino Group is the parent company of listed developer Sinon Land Corporation in Hong Kong.

This comes after the government said it was studying several options, including the donation of the unused vaccine dose, as some of these vaccines are due to expire in August. Hong Kong's government is working to encourage people to take the vaccine by repeatedly opening lockdowns and giving policy incentives such as reducing the quarantine period. Amid growing demand for vaccines around the world, Chief Executive Carrie Lam rejected any cash or other types of incentives to boost vaccination rates.

Of Hong Kong's 7.5 million population, only 12.6 percent have been fully vaccinated, while 28.3 percent of its population in its neighboring financial center, Singapore, has been vaccinated. The offer of a free apartment in Hong Kong is set to be attractive as the price of property here is quite high. Lucky draws are also being offered to vaccinated residents in New York, Ohio, Maryland, Kentucky and Oregon in the US.
