Agra: While the court is hearing the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah dispute in Mathura, another petition has been filed in the matter by the Hindu side advocate Mahendra Pratap seeking a survey of the Agra Red Fort. The petition said that in 1960, Aurangzeb demolished the temple of Sri Krishna in Mathura and went to the Red Fort in Agra with the idols and valuables present there.

The petition claimed that the mythological, precious and gem-studded statue of Keshav Dev is buried under the stairs of Begum Sahiba Masjid in the Red Fort. The petition has sought a survey of the fort as well as the statue and the valuables to be removed from the stairs and returned. It has been said that Hindu devotees are being insulted because of the presence of idols under the stairs. The petition, filed in the court of civil judge of Mathura, is likely to come up for hearing today itself. On Thursday, the first hearing in the Srikrishna Janmabhoomi and Shahi Eidgah dispute case was held in the court of the district judge. The Senior Division Judge has fixed July 1 for further hearing on the petition. The petition in the Srikrishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi EIdgah dispute was filed in court in September 2020.

It was heard two years later when the district court ordered that the petition was fit to be filed in the court. In support of his claim that the statue was buried in Agra Fort, advocate Mahendra Singh has cited the book 'Masir-e-Alam Giri' by Aurangzeb's chief courtier Sachi Mustek Khan. In the petition, Director General Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Superintendent Archaeological Survey of India Agra, Director Archaeological Survey of India and Central Secretary have been made parties.
