The remaining 28 matches of the I-League football competition were canceled due to the nationwide lockdown caused by the Coronavirus and Mohun Bagan would be officially declared the champion. The I League committee took this decision on Saturday. The I-League panel met via video conference, and recommended to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Executive Committee not to restart the I-League due to the nationwide lockdown. Lockdown is in force until 3 May.

Accepting the recommendation of the I-League Committee for the AIFF Executive Committee will be just a formality. According to the AIFF statement, "The committee recommended that the 2019-20 session be considered to end. Mohun Bagan should be declared the Hero I League Champion for the 2019-20 season as he topped the current table in the suspended Hero I League on 14 March 2020.

Mohun Bagan had won the title before the end of four rounds, with 39 points from 16 matches before the suspended I League on March 14, following its official directive. East Bengal, Minerwa Punjab (23–23 points from both 16 matches) and Real Kashmir (22 points from 15 matches) were competing for second place. The I-League committee said, "Mohun Bagan had 39 points, due to which his difference of points from any other team was much higher, even if the matches were played, he would have remained ahead."

The committee also recommended not to relegate any team in this session, which is a matter of relief for Aizawl FC and Neroka FC. The committee also recommended the cancellation of various youth leagues.
