New Delhi: On Wednesday (March 20) The retail prices of petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged across major cities of the country. Petrol is being retailed at Rs 72.78 per litre in Delhi while diesel costs Rs 66.80 a litre, no change compared with yesterday’s price. Worth mentioning here is that state-run oil marketing companies left prices of petrol stable, while the diesel prices were lowered by 11-12 paise across major cities of the country on Wednesday.

In Mumbai, petrol and diesel are selling for Rs 78.40 a litre and Rs 69.97 per litre, as per data available with Indian Oil Corp website. Similarly, petrol is retailing at Rs 74.86 per litre and diesel can be availed at Rs 68.59 a litre in Kolkata, no change in price as against Tuesday’s rates.

Citizens in Chennai have to pay Rs 75.59 for a litre of petrol while diesel retailed at Rs 70.59 per litre.  It may be noted that the fuel prices in the country is dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. In October 2018, petrol prices had peaked to a record high of Rs 84 per litre in Delhi and Rs 91.34 in Mumbai. Diesel climbed to Rs 75.45 a litre in Delhi and Rs 80.10 in Mumbai.

On Wednesday, in the international oil market, crude prices fell amid economic growth concerns. International Brent crude oil futures were trading at USD 67.50 per barrel, down 11 cents, or 0.2 per cent, from their last close.
