The heart is the most important part of our body. It works nonstop. But wrong lifestyle and eating habits cause a lot of damage to the heart. Heart diseases increase a lot during the winter season. The winter season faces more heart related problems than in summer. As temperature decreases in winter, the heart needs to work extra hard to maintain the temperature of the body. In the same winter, when the body temperature drops, our sympethetic nervous system becomes active and can increase the secretion of catacolamine. This can lead to contraction of blood vessels that can increase heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol levels and the process of blood clotting. All these things can increase the risk of heart attack. Dr Zakia Khan, Senior Consultant-Interventional Cardiology for Fortis Hospital, Kalyan, shared some tips to keep the heart healthy during the cold season. Let us know about these tips:
Don't take stress:-
Stress is the main cause of heart attack and heart related diseases. Acute stress can lead to a direct heart attack and chronic stress can cause changes in the inner layer of the arteries of the heart, causing inflammation that can lead to blood clotting as well as a heart attack.
Do the desired work:-
Listening to gardening, painting, reading and music can also reduce stress. You can also do yoga and meditation if you want. It also proves to be very beneficial.
Get plenty of sleep:-
To reduce the risk of heart attack, you need to get full sleep every day. Also take breaks in between while working.
Exercise for at least 30 minutes daily. Avoid exercising outside the house in the winter season, otherwise you may get cold. You can also opt for indoor exercises like cycling, treadmill, yoga.
Make away from more salt and sugar:-
Use sunflower oil or mustard oil in the food. They are polyunsaturated. Be sure to include salads and fruits in your daily meal.
