The rupee gains 25 paise to close at 75.07 per dollar

On Wednesday, the rupee strengthened by 25 paise to close at 75.07  against the US dollar, amid signs of de-escalation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The local currency opened at 75.24 against the greenback on the interbank forex market and traded between 74.96 and 75.24 throughout the day. It ultimately settled at 75.07, up 25 paise from the previous close. The rupee snapped a five-session losing streak on Tuesday, surging 28 paise to close at 75.32. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the value of the dollar relative to a basket of six currencies, fell 0.19 percent to 95.80.

Brent crude futures, the international benchmark for crude oil, were trading 0.80% higher at $ 94.03 per barrel.

The BSE Sensex finished 145.37 points or 0.25 percent lower at 57,996.68, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 30.25 points or 0.17 percent to 17,322.20. According to stock exchange data, foreign institutional investors were net sellers in the capital market on Tuesday, offloading shares worth 2,298.76 crore.
