These items included essential items such as biscuits, edible oils, packaged food, dairy products and mask-sanitisers, but the most shocking was the stocking of wine. In some regions, people made record purchases of alcohol in preparation for lockdown.

Record of sale of liquor in this region:-
Recently, Tamil Nadu announced a night curfew and a lockdown on Sunday, after which people started collecting essential commodities on Saturday. This preparation set a record of selling liquor worth Rs 210 crore a day. Only 3 cities Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu and Thiruvalluvar contributed 25 per cent to this record sale. That is, only the people of these 3 districts purchased liquor worth more than Rs 52 crore a day.

20% increased biscuit sales:-
According to Parle Products, the largest biscuit maker, the shutdown hint has also led to a surge in biscuit sales. Parle biscuits sales rose 15 per cent between December 27 and January 2. Thereafter, it rose further to 20 per cent in the week of January 2 to January 8. Mayank Shah, senior category head of the company, said sales have picked up steadily after Christmas.

In addition to the same wine and biscuits, people are also shopping for edible oil. Fortune oil sales in Adani Wilmer have grown 15 per cent in the past few days. In addition, people are buying more things like packaged food, dairy products and mask sanitisers. People are already preparing for the fear of getting a lockdown again.
