Statue of Maa Durga was burnt after being removed from the temple, people got angry

Raipur: There has been an uproar over the burning of the statue of Maa Durga in Chhattisgarh. According to the report, the incident took place in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh district. It is being told that unknown miscreants have carried out this incident. A statue of Goddess Durga, revered by Hindus, was set on fire in Sarkheda village on Saturday, police said.

An FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons in this connection, an official at Aundhi police station said. According to preliminary information, some miscreants picked up the idol of Maa Durga from a temple and took it to the banks of a nearby river and set it on fire. After getting information about the incident, a police team on the spot recovered the burnt statue of the goddess.  

A case has been registered under sections 153A  (promoting enmity between different groups or religions) and 295 (acts intended to insult any religion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following a complaint by some locals. According to sources, there is anger among the people of the area after this incident. People have also planned to take out a march to protest against the incident. At present, no arrest has been reported till the time of writing the statement.
