With the BJP, Left Front, and Congress unable to win a single municipality, the ruling Trinamool Congress is on its way to a landslide victory in the recently concluded civic polls, having already won 94 of the 108 municipalities.

In the hills, the Hamro Party, a new political party, surprised everyone by winning Darjeeling Municipality, while the Left Front gained Taherpur Municipality. The results show that the Trinamool Congress has not only cemented its position in South Bengal, but has also whitewashed the BJP in North Bengal, casting doubt on the saffron brigades' so-called "stronghold" in North Bengal districts such as Coochbehar, Malda, South and North Dinajpur, and Alipurduar.

So far, the results of 85 municipalities have been announced, with the ruling party winning 83 of them, the Hamro Party winning the Darjeeling municipality, and two municipalities - Benldanga in Murshidabad and Jhalda in East Burdwan - being hung.

The Trinamool Congress has won in municipalities such as Contai, which is home to Suvendu Adhikari, and Khidderpore, where former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh won the Assembly election and where BJP MLA Hiran currently serves. By capturing the Bhatpara municipality in North 24 Parganas, the Trinamool Congress has made significant gains in the backyard of BJP strongman Arjun Singh.

Apart from that, the ruling party has won important municipalities such as Barasat, Coochbehar, Gobardanga, Chakda, Baduria, Baranagar, Taki Dhuliyan, Tamluk, and many others. The ruling party has previously won uncontested elections in five municipalities: Budge Budge, Seuri, Ghatal, Doihata, and Ghursuri.
