Bengaluru: Amid a political crisis in Karnataka over the resignation of 13 MLAs in the ruling Congress-JDS coalition government and the withdrawal of support of two independents, the Speaker said on Tuesday that the rebel MLAs did not resign properly. There is no set time to decide on it. Reacting to this, Spokesperson K R Ramesh Kumar said that it is a procedural issue.

He has said that there are certain rules in this regard, based on that, we have to take a decision. The spokesperson's office must comply with the rules with the same responsibility. There is no time limit in this regard. One of the provisions in these rules says that if the speaker is assured that these resignations are given on voluntary basis without any pressure and can be sanctioned, I do not know what to do?... I don't know much about that situation.

The crisis on the JDS-Congress government in Karnataka is deepening. In the 224-member Karnataka Assembly, 15 MLAs of the alliance, including two independents, have left the government. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Legislative Party of Karnataka Congress was convened on Tuesday. Another Congress MLA, MTB Nagaraj, did not participate, citing poor health. The meeting was organized under the leadership of Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah.
